Wooli Sports Grounds, North Street, Wooli NSW 2462
Australian National Goanna Pulling Championships Wooli
The 34th Australian National Goanna Pulling Championships are being held Sunday 6th October 2019 at the Wooli Sports Grounds. Money raised from this Event is spent on projects to improve local Wooli community facilities. The Goanna Pulling Day puts a focus back on outdoors fun with a uniquely Australian feel. Goanna Pulling combines a full day of sporting events for all age groups plus loads of market stalls, food and drink outlets and hugely popular jumping castles. All of this takes place in the stunning village of Wooli NSW, a place surrounded by pristine river and ocean waterways and the magnificent Yuragir National Park. The Goanna Pulling Events, you'll be pleased to know, in no way involve any of our gorgeous local fauna. Instead people compete on the revered Grand Goanna Mound where competitors compete in weight-based divisions. Division winners receive an engraved Division Championship belt and winners and runners-up receive cash prizes. The Heavyweight Champion receives a Championship Belt, $500 cash and has their name engraved on the Bob Pollard Memorial Trophy. Apart from Goanna Pulling there are Tug O War Events; NSW Federation of Axemen Woodchop Events; Sprint Races; Three-Legged Races; Brick Carrying Races. Total prize money for the full day's events is over $6000.00. Enjoy a variety of food and drinks or have a refreshing ale at the beer tent while watching the Woodchop. In keeping with our reptilian theme the fascinating Snake Tails Australian Reptile Show will be with us again this year as will the popular jumping castles from Showtime Castles. Kids all-day passes to the jumping castles are $5.00 per day per child. Gate money raised on the day is split between our three local volunteer organisations - the Wooli-Yuragir SES, Wooli Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and Marine Rescue Wooli. Over 3000 people attended last year's event and the Organising Committee is working hard to ensure this year's event is equally successful. Stallholder applications are open so please contact Jane via email on wooli@goannpulling.com.au This is a great day out for all age groups. See you there!

Living Green Vegan Market 2019

6 Oct 2019
Albert Hall, Commonwealth Avenue, Yarralumla ACT 2600
Living Green Vegan Market 2019
Living Green Festival—Sunday 6 October 2019—Albert Hall Canberra’s unique Living Green Festival is not just another environmental expo. It’s a fun-filled festival that focusses equally on sustainability and compassion, showcasing green ideas and solutions that work for the planet, for humans and for other animals. This free day of fun for the whole family will be back at the Albert Hall for the seventh time on Sunday 6 October from 10am-4pm. What makes the Living Green Festival different is that you might find a stall about lounge-shaped water tanks right next to a stall about the plight of orangutans in Indonesia or deaf dogs in Australia. Sustainability is a big theme of the event. Not just in the range of stalls and services showcased at the Festival, but how the event runs itself. The Festival organisers are proud of the event’s ‘green credentials’. All food and drink served at the event is plant-based, which has a much lower ‘carbon footprint’ than animal products such as meat and dairy. It also means all food waste from the event is composted. And not just the food – all servingware used at the event is also compostable, meaning very little waste from the event ends up in landfill or needing to be recycled. So, while nibbling a delicious plant-based cheesecake made by a local Canberra bakery, or sampling a tasty Malaysian vegetable curry from a local haute cuisine restaurant, you can learn about energy efficiency measures for your home at the many eco-friendly market stalls. Retro-fitted double-glazing solutions for existing windows is always one of the most popular exhibits, offering festival attendees the chance to see how it works in practice. Kids are spoilt for choice as well. This year there will be an entire free Kidzone, with an 8-metre rock-climbing wall that kids (and kids-at-heart) can scale to get the best view of the Festival. The Kidzone will also offer free face painting, games and art and craft activities. Festival-goers will also be able to chill out in the grounds of the Albert Hall while listening to live music and entertainment including Petrichor, Hope Street, Monique Lewis, and even a spot of swing dancing! The Festival will also offer a range of free workshops, talks and cooking demonstrations. Oh, and finally, the Living Green Festival has a dog café! That’s right, dogs are welcome at the event. ‘Carson’s Café’ (Carson’s a lovely poodle and the face of the café), will be right in the middle of the 2017 Living Green Festival serving treats for people and dogs alike. So come and experience ‘a kinder shade of green’ for a day at Canberra’s seventh Living Green Festival! To recap… What: The 8th Living Green Festival Where: Albert Hall, Canberra When: Sunday, 6 October, 10am-4pm Why: a kinder shade of green for the planet, animals and humans Further info: www.lgf.org.au or the LGF Facebook page.
