The camp starting being built in November 1939, and received the first soldiers of the 2/11 Battalion of the 6th Division AIF on the 15 November 1939. The camp was also used to training the troops that were being trained for the Occupation Forces of Japan after the war. In 1949 the camp site was transferred to the Department of Immigration and became the home of over 100,000 migrants fleeing worn torn Europe and looking for a new home, the camp closed in 1960. The ownership of the site reverted back to Defence and was finally sold by public auction in 1980. We currently have approval to use the original camp site on camp road to host the festival – the site is some 2,930acres more than enough room to host a celebration of this scale.
