THE PARADE - everyone is talking about! Proudly raising funds for community projects. Rainbow on the Plains is a festival of fun, support, inclusion and celebration of our local and visiting lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex communities, their friends and families. We celebrate with a street parade and party, alongside various community events. In March 2018 Hay hosted the inaugural ‘Rainbow on the Plains Festival’. Originally envisaged as a simple idea for a group of friends to gather and watch the 40th anniversary Sydney parade, the concept was quickly embraced by supporters across the globe. In a few short months a three day festival was organised.

Living Green Festival—Sunday 29th March 2020—Albert Hall Canberra’s unique Living Green Festival is not just another environmental expo. It’s a fun-filled festival that focusses equally on sustainability and compassion, showcasing green ideas and solutions that work for the planet, for humans and for other animals. This free day of fun for the whole family will be back at the Albert Hall for the eighth time on Sunday 29th March 2020 from 10am-4pm. What makes the Living Green Festival different is that you might find a stall about lounge-shaped water tanks right next to a stall about the plight of orangutans in Indonesia or deaf dogs in Australia. Sustainability is a big theme of the event. Not just in the range of stalls and services showcased at the Festival, but how the event runs itself. The Festival organisers are proud of the event’s ‘green credentials’. All food and drink served at the event is plant-based, which has a much lower ‘carbon footprint’ than animal products such as meat and dairy. It also means all food waste from the event is composted. And not just the food – all servingware used at the event is also compostable, meaning very little waste from the event ends up in landfill or needing to be recycled. So, while nibbling a delicious plant-based cheesecake made by a local Canberra bakery, or sampling a tasty Malaysian vegetable curry from a local haute cuisine restaurant, you can learn about energy efficiency measures for your home at the many eco-friendly market stalls. Retro-fitted double-glazing solutions for existing windows is always one of the most popular exhibits, offering festival attendees the chance to see how it works in practice. Kids are spoilt for choice as well. This year there will be an entire free Kidzone, with an 8-metre rock-climbing wall that kids (and kids-at-heart) can scale to get the best view of the Festival. The Kidzone will also offer free face painting, games and art and craft activities. Festival-goers will also be able to chill out in the grounds of the Albert Hall while listening to live music and entertainment including Petrichor, Hope Street, Monique Lewis, and even a spot of swing dancing! The Festival will also offer a range of free workshops, talks and cooking demonstrations. Oh, and finally, the Living Green Festival has a dog café! That’s right, dogs are welcome at the event. ‘Carson’s Café’ (Carson’s a lovely poodle and the face of the café), will be right in the middle of the 2017 Living Green Festival serving treats for people and dogs alike. So come and experience ‘a kinder shade of green’ for a day at Canberra’s seventh Living Green Festival! The Albury-Wodonga Antiques and Collectables Fair is returning again in 2020 with a host of new professional dealers as well as your old favourites. Organised by antiques dealer Mick Dalton, in conjunction with the Albury-Wodonga Antiques Fair Committee and Albury-Wodonga Community Chest Inc. this event has become a great drawcard for collectors both serious and novice alike. The 4th and 5th April will see the Mirambeena Community Centre at Lavington transformed into an impressive showcase of antiques when dealers from all around the country combine for the fair. Traditionally the aim of a fair is to cater for all tastes and incomes, from the smallest thimble to a grand Victorian chest. Prices are competitive and the range of items for sale is enormous, enabling customers to view many different dealers all together under one roof, instead of travelling to twenty different establishments. Georgian and Victorian jewellery, English and European porcelain, silver, glass, linen, lamps, collectables and furniture, both rustic and traditional will be displayed with great care and pride, the dealers themselves endeavouring to supply as much information as possible to help the collector. The Albury-Wodonga Antiques Fair is also a fundraiser for Antiques Fair Committee and Albury-Wodonga Community Chest Inc. who will be providing delicious light lunches as well as morning and afternoon teas throughout the weekend of the fair. The Albury-Wodonga Antiques Fair is open to the public from 10am until 5pm on Saturday 4th April and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday 5th April. Admission is $9 for adults and includes a lucky door ticket. Accompanied children are free. There is plenty of parking available nearby and wheelchair access into the hall. The town’s glowing buildings will be the backdrop for the crowd-pleasing lantern parade, where children and adults parade through the festival footprint with paper lanterns they have created. The event will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display over our historic town. Now in its sixth year, the reinvigorated illuminate Wollondilly 2020 is set to delight attendees like never before, with exciting new activities for the whole family and even more awe-inspiring lighting projections. New additions include LED dancers, street performers, DJ activation truck, silent disco and more. Illuminate Wollondilly is a free event and will run from 12 pm to 9 pm. In the three days leading up to the festival, local artworks will be displayed in Picton Shire Hall alongside a selection of artisan market stalls, showcasing the rich talent of the area. The Robertson Antiques Fair will be a bonanza for the village with a great number of tourists visiting the fair and also visiting many local attractions such as our three local waterfalls, the Illawarra Fly treetop walk, the Robertson Heritage Railway Station Gallery , the Village Woodworks, the Old Cheese Factory Complex and the Southern Highlands Artisans Collective After your visit to the Antiques Fair there is still plenty to do in the village such as browsing through the many shops selling antiques, arts and crafts, paintings, books, foodstuffs and local produce. Also why not visit one of the many cafes for morning / afternoon tea or lunch. Events like the fair are important to the School of Arts Committee who rely on income from these functions to maintain the hall. During the fair the ladies from the hall committee will be serving light lunches and morning/afternoon teas. The Robertson Antiques Fair will be open to the public from 10am until 5pm on Saturday 21st November and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday 22nd November . Admission is $8 for adults and includes a lucky door prize ticket. Accompanied children are free. There is plenty of parking nearby and wheelchair access into the hall.
