Rainbow on the Plains Festival - FAIR DAY

28 Mar 2020 to 29 Mar 2020
Hay Park, Moppett Street, Hay NSW 2711
Rainbow on the Plains Festival - FAIR DAY
THE PARADE - everyone is talking about! Proudly raising funds for community projects. Rainbow on the Plains is a festival of fun, support, inclusion and celebration of our local and visiting lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex communities, their friends and families. We celebrate with a street parade and party, alongside various community events. In March 2018 Hay hosted the inaugural ‘Rainbow on the Plains Festival’. Originally envisaged as a simple idea for a group of friends to gather and watch the 40th anniversary Sydney parade, the concept was quickly embraced by supporters across the globe. In a few short months a three day festival was organised.

Living Green Vegan Market - March 2020

29 Mar 2020
Albert Hall, Commonwealth Avenue, Yarralumla ACT 2600
Living Green Vegan Market - March 2020
Living Green Festival—Sunday 29th March 2020—Albert Hall Canberra’s unique Living Green Festival is not just another environmental expo. It’s a fun-filled festival that focusses equally on sustainability and compassion, showcasing green ideas and solutions that work for the planet, for humans and for other animals. This free day of fun for the whole family will be back at the Albert Hall for the eighth time on Sunday 29th March 2020 from 10am-4pm. What makes the Living Green Festival different is that you might find a stall about lounge-shaped water tanks right next to a stall about the plight of orangutans in Indonesia or deaf dogs in Australia. Sustainability is a big theme of the event. Not just in the range of stalls and services showcased at the Festival, but how the event runs itself. The Festival organisers are proud of the event’s ‘green credentials’. All food and drink served at the event is plant-based, which has a much lower ‘carbon footprint’ than animal products such as meat and dairy. It also means all food waste from the event is composted. And not just the food – all servingware used at the event is also compostable, meaning very little waste from the event ends up in landfill or needing to be recycled. So, while nibbling a delicious plant-based cheesecake made by a local Canberra bakery, or sampling a tasty Malaysian vegetable curry from a local haute cuisine restaurant, you can learn about energy efficiency measures for your home at the many eco-friendly market stalls. Retro-fitted double-glazing solutions for existing windows is always one of the most popular exhibits, offering festival attendees the chance to see how it works in practice. Kids are spoilt for choice as well. This year there will be an entire free Kidzone, with an 8-metre rock-climbing wall that kids (and kids-at-heart) can scale to get the best view of the Festival. The Kidzone will also offer free face painting, games and art and craft activities. Festival-goers will also be able to chill out in the grounds of the Albert Hall while listening to live music and entertainment including Petrichor, Hope Street, Monique Lewis, and even a spot of swing dancing! The Festival will also offer a range of free workshops, talks and cooking demonstrations. Oh, and finally, the Living Green Festival has a dog café! That’s right, dogs are welcome at the event. ‘Carson’s Café’ (Carson’s a lovely poodle and the face of the café), will be right in the middle of the 2017 Living Green Festival serving treats for people and dogs alike. So come and experience ‘a kinder shade of green’ for a day at Canberra’s seventh Living Green Festival! To recap… What: The 8th Living Green Festival Where: Albert Hall, Canberra When: Sunday, 29th March, 10am-4pm Why: a kinder shade of green for the planet, animals and humans Further info: www.lgf.org.au or the LGF Facebook page.
